Following a Public Service Fellowship and Masters in Public Administration at Harvard, she is now a medical director of the largest independent healthcare provider in England and provides primary care services accessible to all, including prize winning care inside 31 prisons.
One of Marjorie Gillespie's first memories is being interviewed by Sr. Anne Dyer to enter Kindergarten. She was born in Colombia and on the families return to Washington, they chose their home for its proximity to a Sacred Heart school. Dr. Gillespie is 5th generation Sacred Heart. Her great, great grandfather dedicated one of his houses as a convent to bring the Sacred Heart nuns to Puerto Rico. Marjorie's mother later boarded there.
On a trip to London, Dr. Gillespie recognized a nun wearing a Sacred Heart cross on a train station platform. She chose to explore her British roots and boarded at the Sacred Heart School in Woldingham, England for two years before returning to Stone Ridge. During her senior year at Stone Ridge, she used to cross through a hole in the fence to the Naval Medical centre to work as a medical lab research technician.
Dr. Gillespie loves trekking and has hiked in Europe, Africa, South and Central America. She has worked as the doctor accompanying charity climbs and fashion photo shoots, and has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro five times!
The Stone Ridge Commencement ceremony takes place on Thursday, June 9, at 10:30 pm in front of Hamilton House.
