Ms. Teri Gonzales, past Director of Campus Ministry and Lauren Brownlee, Director of Social Action, hosted a Network Service project at Stone Ridge from June 26—July 1, 2016. The project was titled “Human Dignity: Not For Sale.” The program had nine attendees from not only Stone Ridge, but also Academy of the Sacred Heart (St. Charles, MO), Carrolton (Miami, FL), Duchesne Academy (both Omaha, NE and Houston, TX), Country Day School of the Sacred Heart (Bryn Mawr, PA), and Newton Country Day School (Boston, MA). The group learned about domestic violence and human trafficking, and explored ways to advocate for these issues, including a trip to Capitol Hill to lobby. Here is a full description of the project: http://sofie.org/portals/human-dignity-not-sale.
One evening the group went to the Stuart Center for community building and prayer. The Sacred Heart Alumnae Board and young alumni leaders were there at the same time, so all groups combined for the evening to connect over their shared Sacred Heart experiences.
Ms. Lauren Brownlee reflected, “We came together as empowered girls and women to learn about how to use our voices in solidarity with those which are being silenced nationally and globally. We honored intersectionality and considered how to leverage our privilege to make the world a better place for girls and women everywhere. We were all inspired to take action!"
